HS-6208-PTFE Hybrid Ceramic Bearing

The HS-6208-PTFE is a hybrid ceramic deep groove ball bearing manufactured by TOJO Bearing. It combines AISI304 stainless steel rings, Si₃N₄ ceramic balls and a PTFE cage for applications requiring high-speed capability, reduced friction, electrical resistance and elevated-temperature performance.

With standard 6208 boundary dimensions of 40 × 80 × 18 mm, the HS-6208-PTFE can be dimensionally interchangeable with a standard 6208 bearing where the load, speed, lubrication and operating conditions are suitable.

Why Choose a Hybrid Ceramic 6208?

The HS-6208-PTFE uses a hybrid construction to combine ceramic rolling-element properties with stainless steel ring strength.

Si₃N₄ ceramic balls are significantly lighter than steel balls. Their lower density reduces centrifugal loading during high-speed rotation and can help reduce rolling friction. Silicon nitride also provides electrical insulation, non-magnetic properties, high hardness and strength under rolling contact.

AISI304 stainless steel rings provide the structural foundation of the bearing while offering corrosion resistance suitable for many industrial and process environments. The rings also maintain the standard 6208 mounting dimensions.

The PTFE cage separates and guides the ceramic balls while providing low friction and chemical resistance in many operating environments. Its suitability for elevated-temperature applications depends on the complete bearing configuration and operating conditions.

Compared with a full ceramic bearing, this hybrid configuration is generally selected when the application requires the performance characteristics of ceramic balls while retaining stainless steel ring strength and a more economical cost profile.

Performance Advantages

High-Speed Capability

Lower ball mass reduces centrifugal loading on the rings and cage. In suitable applications, this can support higher rotational speeds than a comparable stainless steel bearing. Actual speed capability depends on bearing precision, clearance, cage design, lubrication, load and installation conditions.

Reduced Friction and Heat Generation

The lower rolling resistance of Si₃N₄ ceramic balls can help reduce friction and heat generation during operation. In comparable operating conditions, this can contribute to reduced wear and longer maintenance intervals.

Electrical and Magnetic Resistance

Si₃N₄ balls are electrically insulating and non-magnetic. This can help reduce the risk of current-related damage in selected bearing applications and makes the ceramic rolling elements relevant for equipment where magnetic interference is a concern.

The AISI304 stainless steel rings remain electrically conductive, so the complete HS-6208-PTFE is not a fully electrically insulated bearing.

Lubrication and Temperature Capability

The ceramic balls and PTFE cage support lubricant-free operation in selected applications where speed, load, heat dissipation and required service life allow it.

The bearing is applicable for temperatures up to approximately 220°C under suitable conditions. Actual capability depends on cage grade, lubricant, speed, load, heat dissipation and the complete bearing configuration.

Recommended Applications

High-Speed Rotating Equipment

Suitable for selected motors, high-speed spindles, pumps and other rotating equipment where reduced rolling mass and friction are beneficial.

Electrically Sensitive Systems

Applicable to selected motor, generator and other equipment where current passage through the bearing needs to be limited. The ceramic balls provide electrical insulation, while the stainless steel rings remain conductive.

Elevated-Temperature Environments

Suitable for applications operating beyond the practical limits of conventional grease-lubricated bearing configurations, subject to the selected cage, lubricant, speed and load.

Lubrication-Restricted Environments

Can be considered for cleanrooms, vacuum equipment, food processing and other applications where lubricant contamination is a concern. Dry-running suitability should be evaluated according to the actual operating conditions.

Corrosion-Aware Environments

AISI304 stainless steel rings provide corrosion resistance for many industrial and process environments where standard bearing steel may not provide the required level of environmental resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is HS-6208-PTFE interchangeable with a standard 6208 bearing?

It shares the standard 6208 boundary dimensions of 40 × 80 × 18 mm and can be dimensionally interchangeable where the hybrid bearing's load, speed, lubrication and operating conditions suit the application.

What is the difference between hybrid and full ceramic bearings?

A hybrid bearing uses steel or stainless steel rings with ceramic balls. A full ceramic bearing uses ceramic material for both rings and rolling elements. Hybrid construction combines ceramic ball properties with stainless steel ring strength and a more economical cost profile.

Is it suitable for high-speed applications?

Yes. The lower mass of Si₃N₄ balls reduces centrifugal forces and can support higher-speed operation in suitable applications. Actual speed capability depends on precision, lubrication, clearance, cage design, load and installation conditions.

What is the maximum operating temperature?

Approximately 220°C, subject to cage grade, lubricant, speed, load and application conditions. The complete bearing configuration should be evaluated for elevated-temperature applications.

Can it operate without lubrication?

Lubricant-free operation may be possible in selected applications. Suitability depends on speed, load, heat dissipation and required service life.

Can I order samples before bulk production?

Yes. Prototype and sample quantities are available for application testing and validation before volume production.

What information is needed for a quotation?
